I think his firing is just a pacifier for the situation. The only reason he was fired was because they were losing advertising money. Not that I condone what he said but his punishment wouldn't have been as severe had the media not exploited the hell out of it and companies had not pulled their ad spots.

Should Don imus have been fired? I never really cared for the guy so doesnt matter to me. His comments were a bit edgy and directed at a college sports team and i thought they were inappropriate. Quite honestly i have heard worse in rap music and on Howard Stern. The difference here is that CBS and MSNBC are losing sponsors quickly as well as millions of dollars. Its a sensitive world and the reality is that you cant say anything in the media even if it is meant as a joke.

He called them a word that translates to tramps, prostitutes. Stupid choice on his part. Then he went on another station to explain his actions and tried to make it sound like it was no big deal. Second stupid choice on his part. Once the complaints started to happen and the sponsors started to waver THEN he apologized. Third stupid choice on his part. Times change, and unfortunately people cannot make mistakes like this and expect to come away forgiven. I find it terribly ironic that Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were calling for his firing. Anyone remember "HAIMETOWN" ?? Couldn't it be considered the same kind of offense? Racial, ignorant, prejudicial? Yeah, what was easy speak 20 years ago is more than looked down on today, and that's good. I just hope the ones wagging their fingers understand what forgiveness truly means. I hope Don Imus learns from this situation and tries to make a comeback, in humility. People need to see that you can make a mistake and change for the better.

I think the ad money was speaking. I do like like companies that are bullied by racial extremist (aka your 2 favorite Rev's), but if they were going to lose a lot of money it was the right call. I am sure a lot of people can in the back on their mind, relate to some of the things he is saying but you must be responsible for your words. The truth does not always set you free.

Should Don imus have been fired? Yes. What does he get out of calling the Women's Rutgers team "Nappy headed hoes"? Instead of giving them praise, he has to make a racially/sexist charged comment. What surprises me is he felt he could get away with saying something like that in today's world. Apparently he didn't learn from Howard Stern's fiasco. Trust me, him being fired will not force him to live on the street or beg for food. Whether this firing was motivated by money is irrelevant. I believe some companies still have ethics. I think the real question should be, "If Imus was black would he be fired?"

Nope, he wouldn't have been reprimanded if he were black, even if he made some crack on white people. Like was said on here, he was only fired when CBS' $15M/year cash cow got smacked around by sponsors. And those sponsors were attacked by a couplea racists that somehow still have clout on this Earth.
The United States will be such a better place when race is not an issue for ANYONE. Right now, I'd like to think the vast vast vast majority of whites have gotten beyond race issues (and they have, except in some extreme circumstances). Now, we need the other races to get over the race issues.

Here's a better question...have Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton apologized to the Duke Lacrosse players yet?

This Race thing is the problem they are not a different race their the same race, and the double standard as to stop, its OK for one black person to call another the N word but if a white person dose it, they yell racism. What Imus called the Lady's was wrong no woman should ever be called a Ho, but yet Rap and Hip-Hop is full of this, I don't see them being fired from their record labels for it. AL Sharpton would have never opened his mouth if the women were white and Imus said them some Trail Trash Hoes. IMO

Sharpton and Jackson are the poster children for racism. I cannot stand either of them. IFF did bring up a better question about the Duke players who were innocent. For whatever reason, I thought they were innocent from the start, but I digress...
There's always going to be racism. It's inevitable. Just keep it out of the mainstream.

Exactly. When the country gets over the racist crap...and that includes the racist "reverends" that always shoot their traps whenever it may benefit them...we will all be in a much better place. Too bad we have people like Sharpton and Jackson calling foul when they're well over half the problem in the first place.

Should Don imus have been fired? more important question, was Imus paid off to leave quietly? He had 4 years left on his contract, was hired as a "shock" jock, and has surely said worse in the past. I'm sure if he wasnt paid off, they are working relentless behind the scene to keep him from suing for violating his contract.
