Led Team to Two Playoff Berths, National Championship in 2010
BALTIMORE, MD (August 29, 2010) – After leading the Baltimore Mariners to a perfect 16-0 season and the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) national championship in 2010, Mariners Head Coach Chris Simpson announced he would not be returning to the team for the 2011 season.
In an official statement Simpson commented:
This has been a hard decision for me however there is a season of change in my life and time to move on to new challenges. I want to do what’s best for my family and my career. I am thankful for the opportunities ownership and Greg Justice afforded me with the Baltimore Mariners and proud that a football championship has once again found its way back to Baltimore. I have been blessed to part of this great city and for the many relationships my wife and I have developed over the last four seasons. My coaches and players are the best and I truly appreciate their dedication and commitment. I hope for nothing but continued success for the organization.
A head coach in the indoor professional football ranks for six seasons, including four in Baltimore, Simpson enjoyed the most success in his final two seasons with the Mariners. In 2009 he led Baltimore to a 9-5 record and the team’s first playoff berth in franchise history. In 2010 the Mariners completed the first undefeated season in AIFA history and won the indoor league’s national championship by defeating the Wyoming Cavalry 57-42 in front of 6,075 fans at 1st Mariner Arena on July 25, 2010.
Mariners General Manager Greg Justice stated, “It has been an honor to have played for, coached for, and then worked along side Chris the past three seasons. As General Manager, we will move forward in defending our AIFA championship in 2011 and wish Coach Simpson the very best in his future endeavors. He will be missed, but will forever be part of our Mariner family."
