I did not follow indoor football during the AIFL/Haines years as Baltimore did not have a team. In fact, I was unaware of any other leagues outside of the AFL. One thing I can say about Gene and Joe and a few others, Mitch included, is that over the years, they have taught me a lot about the AIFA; taken me under wing and to an extent were responsible for all the work I had done for the Mariners and the AIFA. Now, I do not brag about my involvement with the Mariners or the AIFA and some people have no idea that I ever worked for the league and team. It was a great experience but incredibly frustrating.
Gene, Joe, and the other FAB member whose name escapes me have poured their hearts into their teams and the AIFA and never felt appreciated. IF the UIFL gives the fans a voice and appreciates the input and fan involvement, then that is only a good thing; especially for the FAB. If it blows up in their face, then like the AIFA, they can at least say they tried.
Gene is done with the AIFA and I can understand his frustrations. Will it be more of the same with the UIFL? That is a possibility but a risk he feels is worth it. I would like to thank Gene and the others for their years of dedication and service to the AIFA and for this top notch site that has actually surpassed the AIFA site in terms of content and interaction. Thanks for the broadcasts of games when the league failed to do them. Thanks for the live scoring application and every other little nuance that we take for granted now.
It would be easy to call them foolish for teaming up with the UIFL and Andrew Haines, but the point is; maybe this is exactly what the UIFL will need to be a solid league. Good luck guys. Thanks again for showing me the AIFA ropes.

Well, the uifl must have had a slow news day if you're the biggest news they can concoct. This is what you could have done, Gene. You could have issued a statement saying that you, Joe and Ron will no longer provide your well-respected fan support of the AIFA and will shut down this site at the end of the season while providing a laundry of issues that made you make that decision. Given the Ogden and Wasilla situations, it would have had weight and credence. I've already stated you do a better job then Hazen on game days. I'll end it at that. The league wrote & released it, we did not. I did however post it here as well as on facebook and myspace just as i did before when there was AIFA news, no different. Is it that strange for an organization to put out a pr when they assemble a board? You of all people are the 1st to complain about teams and the league not issuing pr's. Cant win wit you either way, Whether theres a pr or not theres an issue. As Joe always says next time remember sticky side down.

I am committed to my team in Erie first. But, I do want to see Canton return to football. I honestly believe AH. has learned from his mistakes. And to correct a statement, AH is marketing for UIFL, not running it. The release wasn't meant to make us "glorious". The UIFL is new, they are letting everyone know whats going on. Regional teams make more sense. Owners are not making money, these ideas might actually keep teams in business. Most fans on these boards don't even care about the West.
Thanx Dave for the kind words.

Ron has no ties to the AIFA but i think i can speak for him and say that he wishes the AIFA well. His support for the UIFL, as per his previous post, is to get a team back in Canton and help them be a premiere organization. As for myself, i have no contact with AIFA league ownership, nor do they care to hear what the fans have to say. Never had a conference call, & only been to 1 league meeting 2 1/2 yrs ago. I was contacted by the UIFL and gladly accepted and they will have my support 100%. We will have monthly conference calls as well as be invited to league meetings. As Joe stated, AH is only handling the marketing and is not the only person involved with the league. I never had any issues with him and he has always been friendly and upfront with me. Also to clarify, this site will never shut down. AIFAFANS are welcome here anytime and Joe, Mitch and the gang will run it as it has been run in the past. Though my participation will drop down i will make random appearances to create new team forums and do any other technical work needed as well as join in on the banter now and then.

You're right, Gene. Makes complete sense.
But maybe there is a reason those markets are dark.
My points, again, are these: 1) we don't need another league 2) after the massive fails of the aifl and the mahl, we don't need any minor league sport endeavor that has any connection with haines.
m'kay?

Dan, have you become so impatient that you can't wait to see if it fails before you give your rounds of "I told you so's"?

no, i just believe the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. each time ... if it works, great ... if not, whatever and we'll see it again in 2013 or something ... Dan, have you become so impatient that you can't wait to see if it fails before you give your rounds of "I told you so's"?

haines is involved haines=bad here's who i see as the line-up; Johnstown, Canton, Huntington, Wheeling and Youngstown what if the cifl wanted those markets? The first question WesBanco Arena (Wheeling) asks to anyone involved with any sport is "is Andrew Haines involved with your league in any way?" The UIFL will not play there.

I understand what everyone is saying ... and they are right. History says that this is an exercise in futility. Come to think of it though, hasn't all (minor league) indoor football been an exercise in futility?
I am not walking into this with blinders on. I know what has happened in the past and have seen it transpire right before my eyes. I have made my feelings known and that's all I can do.
Think about it ... can it get any worse than seeing your team for sale on eBay?
