If all the resent signings the RiverRats have pulled off work out and the vets they already have all come together could we be looking at Pittsburgh as a contender in the northern division?

Depending on how the team as a whole comes together, I can see them doing well. Sly will help out in the kick return and receiving areas, and as long as the QB has time, Sly will really help open the passing game up for all the receivers, not just himself.

I wonder how many kicks Sly will be able to return, with AIFA kickers in love with the UNO.
Is the field at Rostraver a full 50 yards w/ 7-8 yard endzones? Is the ceiling low so the kickers have to kick line drives or will they be able to kick for the goalposts?
By Sly's own admission, he should see some time at DB as well as returning kicks.

From what it looks in the photographs, and if it holds serve as most Ice Arenas do, it should be a short roof that will contribute to line drives, much similar to St. John Arena prior to the scoreboard coming down.

I wonder if those capacity numbers aren't with a boxing or wrestling ring in the middle and the rest of the floor filled with chairs. We'll get a great report from Sykotyk on Sunday night.

Regarding the question of if they are a contender ...
There is no doubt that there is a ton of talent of the Riverrats. The only question we've had about this team is, "Can all those egos co-exist and get the job done?"
This has yet to be seen.

Just off the photos, not seeing how big the upper tier is, I'm guessing 3,500-4,000 as the maximum capacity. St. John Arena is built similar, although the lower level is designed completely different. The Rostraver rink has about 5 rows that go around the length, while St John has about 8 rows (plus the two box seat rows) before the upper level starts. St. John Arena holds about 4,200, so that'd be a good comparison to make.
Also, the architecture seems similar, including the steel arches protruding out of the sides of the arena. It's another one of the venues that looks like the floor sits down in a bowl dug into the Earth, rather than on ground level.

Isn't Pittsburgh the team thats selling the two "average joe" roster spots?

Seating is around 3,000 for football at the ice garden, we could add some additional seats to maybe get to 3,500 if needed.
The ceiling is about as high as Cantons. The field is 200 ft, so it has the big endzones.
I'll have some pics from Sundays game I will put up on the RiverRats site.

Any team can be a contender if they gel, that remains to be seen for the Riverrats

Heck, The Tupelo High School Football statium has more seats than that! By the way, I hope RiverRats get it together! (the BancorpSouth Arena holds 10,000 seats for the Mudcat games, 5,000 people have been at each game). :smileymudcats: :smileymudcats: :smileymudcats:
