Started off as a fan of the Danville Demolition, because I won the name-the-team contest there. Then I was a Nomad for a while after they folded. But today, something dawned on me-back in '05, I was one of many who submitted "Express" for the name-the-team thing in Reading!
So now I ask you all-is the train big enough for Late Boarders?

Started off as a fan of the Danville Demolition, because I won the name-the-team contest there. Then I was a Nomad for a while after they folded. But today, something dawned on me-back in '05, I was one of many who submitted "Express" for the name-the-team thing in Reading! So now I ask you all-is the train big enough for Late Boarders? A little history for ya. Back in 05 i attended the press conference when the team was announced to start play in the 06 season. I was the only fan who attended, go figure, but there was some press there too. I spoke with Andrew Haines, then league/team owner, and he asked me which name i preferred, Railers or Express. I told him Express sounded good but i liked both. So he suggested that i put a poll up on an old message board that i had back then in support of the team to get the fans response. Overwhelmingly, they chose Express. The team then ran a name the team contest and had a few names selected in a poll and fans, like yourself, again voted for Express to be the teams nickname. I think some woman won the prize which was either season tix for life or for that season, not sure? The teams colors were designed after the Dallas Cowboys. Though Andrew used to tease me about it cause at the time i was an Eagles fan & he's a Cowboys fan, i told him i just think of them as Penn State colors, lol. But even still he'd get his digs in now and then. Overall the Express name has worked perfectly for the team tieing in the Reading Railroad theme not to mention the tracks that are right next to the arena and the constant flow of trains using them. On top of that we ExpressFans nicknamed the arena "The RailYard" which is kinda badda$$ in itself. It can be a loud & intimidating place for opponents to play...

I think Railers would have been a little too blah. Now Rail Splitters would have been better than Railers, but I like Express for the combination of history, local interest, promotion options etc.
