AIFA Awards Expansion Franchise to Trenton, New Jersey for 2010
TRENTON, New Jersey (November 25, 2008) – The American Indoor Football Association has awarded an expansion franchise to Trenton, New Jersey. The team will participate in the AIFA's 2010 season.
The new team will play its home games at the Sovereign Bank Arena, a state-of-the-art facility that has earned considerable attention during its eight years of operation. The arena will seat over 8,000 fans in the AIFA indoor football configuration. The building also boasts 34 sky boxes and over 1,100 club seats. It is managed by Global Spectrum, a division of Comcast-Spectacor. Over 7-million people live within a 40-mile radius of the building.
“It is very pleasing to see this agreement come together,” said John Morris, co-founder of the AIFA. “There is tremendous enthusiasm for our product here, and Trenton will fit perfectly within our league footprint. This franchise has incredible potential.”
“We are very, very excited about this,” said Jeff Schumacher, General Manager of the Sovereign Bank Arena. “I've actually been working on attracting a team here for a full two years. I truly feel we're finally with the league we need to be with...the league that makes the most sense here to have an opportunity for a team to do well.”
The ownership group for the franchise will be introduced in the near future. The complete interview with Jeff Schumacher will be heard on the next edition of This Week in the AIFA, which should be available for distribution late in the week. Other guests will include John Morris and AIFA co-founder Michael Mink.
