First off, Redding is a great team. Flowers is the best quarterback I've see in the three years I've followed indoor football (since the Lions have been in existence). Not only is he fast and accurate, he is smart - he didn't make a single mistake.
The Reddding O-Line was awesome too (and huge!).
Best of all, they played good hard football and exhibited exemplary sportsmanship. I wish we had more teams like Redding in the league. Its fun to play such a good team in a competitive game like that.
As for the Lions, Carlos Martinez kept us in the game as he has done all year. He and Damien are our MVP's. Our guys played hard and gave us a great season. You can't complain about 12-4 and winning all but one home game to the eventual league champion (which Redding will be by half-time of the game against Wyoming). We have a great organization and the best coach in indoor football. We had a great game plan and just missed a few open recievers/catches - however, I'll credit a lot of that to Redding's defense. I certainly am not leveling that as a criticisim of Todd or any of the recievers either - they all had great years.
I enjoyed seeing the hard play and sportsmanship our guys show. We had one interception and they had none and the game was won by a touchdown (if you take out the last safety). As good as Redding was, we had the ball with a chance to tie at the end and couldn't pull it off.
I can't wait until next year. Hope we bring back everyone we had this year, but I imagine Carlos will be kicking in the NFL next season and several of our other players may find their way to the AFL if it comes back next year.
Good luck in Wyoming Redding - I hope the league doesn't fail to pay what it is supposed to for your travel expenses.
