To no ones surprise, after taking a 40-3 halftime lead, Wyoming coasted to a 56-9 win over New Mexico Sunday evening (6/21) for the Wildcats 11th straight loss. Attendance continues to dwindle. I was hoping, with it being Fathers Day, some wives or kids might take Dad to the game. Maybe there were a few but, for the most part it looked like they had other plans for Dad.
Other evidence that the team is circling the drain:
During Pre-game warm-ups, the team had only one football to practice with instead of the usual 3 or 4. The kicker had 3 footballs but they were old brown ones not the usual AIFA RWB. Trying to save the official balls for game use?
There were quite a few new players. I don't know who they are since they didn't have names on their jerseys and I couldn't understand the garble the announcer used to introduce the players. Don't bother looking at the website for the current roster. It ain't there. At least this game all the players had their own helmet. At the last home game, one of the offensive linemen had to share a helmet with a defensive lineman.
There was no video showing the action on the arena's big screens. I really missed that as I can't see the corners on my side of the field and depended on the video to show me what was happening there.
The Lady Wildcats Dance/Cheer Team keeps shrinking. They started the season with 10, then there was 9 and then 8 the last few games. Tonight there were 6.
instead of the usual chain gang in uniform, there were two teens and one older guy in civvies who had obviously had no instruction on how to do the job.
The security people seem to have disappeared. Granted, problems have been rare but, it is comforting to have them there in case they are needed. I did see one city cop but, it seems to me, there used to be 3 or 4 of them also at every game.
The website continues to be a joke. Last week I checked it on the off-hand chance there was anything new there. There wasn't. For over a month. I just looked now and did find that sometime in the last week they did add the 'latest news', "It's Fathers Day". An ad to buy tickets for Dad for Fathers Day. Considering there is rarely any reason for people to look there and the ad doesn't tell you how to buy tickets, 'latest news' is useless. Not to mention that they still have a link to buy tickets at GetTix.net where you haven't been able to buy them since the 3rd game of the season.
One other odd thing I noticed at this game. In all previous games, there were usually 4-6 non-players in the team's bench area. There was usually a trainer, 2 or 3 players not dressed for the game (injured or just extra) and 2 or 3 people that just seemed to be visiting. I found these non-players often annoying because they seemed to like standing up on the benches right in front of me, blocking my view of the game. Sometimes I could get their attention and have them get down or at least move but, sometimes I just had to live with it. Anyway, tonight ONLY players were on the bench. I wonder what happened to the extras.
So, with 2 games left, barring a miracle, we're on course for a 1-13 season, matching last season's Utah Saints, who promptly folded. At least we'll beat out last season's Florida Stingrays who went 0-14 (and promptly folded too). Anyone want to bet on the Wildcats coming back for 2010?
