The D.C Armor closed out there inaugural season in the DC Armory with a win over the Erie River Rats Saturday night. The win guaranteed D.C no worse than a forth place finish in the AIFA’s Eastern Conference. Story from the River Rats Web Site:
Erie Loses in Nation's Capital to DC Armor 47-28 June 20, 2009 (Washington, DC) – Despite forcing six interceptions and dominating the time of possession battle, the Erie RiverRats lost on the road in the nation’s capital to the DC Armor by the final score of 47-28.
Erie quarterbacks Stephen Respress and Kevin Mason combined to complete 12 of 42 passes for 179 yards and four touchdowns, but threw three interceptions, two of which were returned for DC touchdowns. The Erie offense converted just 1 of 10 third downs and 1 of 4 fourth downs, and PK Joe Lindway missed all four of his field goal attempts.
Defensively, Erie DB Dwaon Woodard tied a franchise record with three interceptions, DB Jessie Allen added two, and DB Taurean Valentine recorded the other of the team’s six interceptions of DC quarterbacks.
The Erie RiverRats return home on Saturday, June 27 in its season finale when they host the defending AIFA champion Florence Phantoms. Tickets are available at the Tullio Arena box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets.

It's a shame that the turnout of fans was so miserable. Hopefully next year it will get more steam.

It's a shame that the turnout of fans was so miserable. Hopefully next year it will get more steam. If there is a next year, with the crowds D.C has been drawing I find it hard to believe Mr.Barnette would continue his investment. That is pure speculation on my part but I would not be surprised if the Armor is one and done. Gene’s post is right you need to advertise and get involved with the community to attract fans. The Armor have a lot of things working against them, poor facility, bad location, and high ticket prices. They need to remedy all of those things if they plan to stay around. The franchise should move to a better facility in the D.C suburbs. I think they could do very well at George Mason’s Patriot Center. It is not like the Armory was cheap any way, the team was paying $5,000 per game and had to bring there own air conditioning. I was very excited when the franchise was announced but I only made it out for one game and the ticket was free. There is no way that I was going to pay $20 to see any thing in the Armory. I tried my best to keep this message board active but with a lack of information from the team and local media it was hard. My interest seriously dissipated during the year to say the least. Not to mention D.C was lousy, it is not fun following a loser. Hopefully things turn around, I would really like to see the Armor prosper. After losing one franchise in Huntington I don’t know how much more minor league indoor football I can stand.
