Heading into the last 4 games of the season, I'm having my doubts that the Wildcats will be back next year. As far as I can tell, the only thing ownership cares about is the cheerleaders. They got sexy new uniforms and boots this year. Makes one wonder if they use a "casting couch" approach to selecting them. Sorry, that was a cheap shot, no disrespect meant to the cheerleaders who, frankly, have been the only good thing about going to a game this year.
Attendance looks like it is about half of what we had last season. They don't publish that number as far as I can tell, so it is difficult to know for sure but, attendance is definitely way down.
As a returning season ticket holder, I haven't seen ownership do anything to encourage the fans to show up. Hell, I even had to make a special trip to the arena (it takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get there in the first place) to renew my season ticket because they wouldn't let me do it on-line or over the phone.
And forget about knowing anything about who the players are. Last year we at least could get a program and roster to know who these guys are. Forget about it this year, there is no such thing. Though they did finally put the player names on the jerseys for the first time at the 3rd home game. Don't they understand that one way to get fans involved and to support the team is to let them get to know the players?
Not to mention that the on-field performance sucks. After (just barely) winning their first game on the road, we've lost 9 straight and have the worst record in the league. And it seems to be getting worse. Last week we lost to Wyoming 85-6, our only TD on a lucky interception return. I think that set AIFA records for most points scored by one team and biggest margin of victory. Of course, we only had 15 players suit up for that game and were missing our #1 QB and receiver. Our only win is against the 2-8 Ogden Knights whose only wins have been here against us. In the 1st game we had a 54-30 lead going into the 4th quarter and lost 58-54. In the other game we had a 42-29 lead going into the 4th quarter and lost 51-49.
Then, the one place one would hope to get news and info on the team, the team's website, is next to useless. The last "news" item is from almost a month ago:
"NFL star, Lorenzo Neal, who was recently traded from the Balitmore Ravens to the Oakland Raiders, will be in attendance at the Wildcats' home game this Friday night (May 15, 2009) against the Utah Valley Thunder at the Santa Ana Star Center. "
I never did see or hear anything about him at the game.
Also on the website is the division standings (it's about the only thing up-to-date there) which somehow doesn't include the Wildcats, I guess because we're off the bottom that pane. The countdown for "Next Home Game" has been showing 0 days, 0 hours,0 minutes for quite some time and the "Event Calendar" has been blank all year. There is very little else useful on the site, though their are some nice pics of the Lady Wildcats!
Oh well, I'll be there for tonight's game. It may well be our last chance for a home win since we are playing the only team we have beaten, Ogden.

Seems to be a common theme around the league. Only a couple of teams get the picture. Its funny, the same teams who have fan friendly sites are the same ones doing well on the field. Goes back to my post couple of weeks back on how the success of these franchises start from the top with ownership. I mean what can we expect when the owners of the freakin league down even update the league site or league-ran team Stampede site. No announcement about coaching change or bringing in new quarterback or even the fact they destroyed Erie last weekend. I know it may seem like we are all just a bunch of but atleast we are not the ones spending all this money to own a franchise and run it down the toilet.

Over on the "Official" AIFA board, someone posted "I overheard the coach tell some of the people at the game, they might not even finish out the season. They are having all kinds of issues paying rent, also making money." I hope that's not true since I have season tickets, so I've already paid to go to the last two home games. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if that happened. What would really piss me off though, is making the 50-60 minute drive out there and then finding out the team has folded.

the team isnt going down the tubes. they like most have felt the affects of the economy. Injurys to top players over the previous weeks are catching up to guys who dont take care of there selves. QB Bj Hall is heading to the CFL or UFLwith private work outs over next few weeks. And Coach has no help for anything hes organizing everything and even helping with throwing thing in to stands for fans. I saw that last nite at the game, when have you ever seen a coach run around and try to get people motivated like that. Hes doing it all and with no finacial backing for some things, heard from some of the guys playing that he bought the athletic tape for last 2 games, cause they had nothing to bye it with. A stats guy was standing by coach they were talking while i over heard the stat guy say he needs the owner to pay him and his staff up front to finish the season. As a fan and hearig players talk 1st hand and they say coach is doing a great job wish we had an owner who cared we could win. thats rough. i'll be at the last 2 home games and rooting them on.

the team isnt going down the tubes... You say that and then cite several items that sound like they are. "Coach has no help for anything...", "Hes doing it all and with no finacial backing for some things...he bought the athletic tape for last 2 games, cause they had nothing to bye it with.", "i over heard the stat guy say he needs the owner to pay him and his staff up front to finish the season..." The team can't afford tape, the coach has to buy it? Damn, that doesn't sound like they'll be able to afford to play the next game.

they sound like they are but the AIFA has good structure and wont let the team die like other leaues in the past. this market has great potential for indoor football. just need someone to own it and care.

What makes you think the AIFA won't let them go. Adrenaline,Saints,Heroes,Mudcats,Stingrays, I could go on and on about teams that they have let go. What makes NM any different? If they are letting them do the things they are doing right now by not helping them be competative on and off the field then why would they attempt that at the end of the season? Sorry! I want to see NM stick around for a long time but the red flags i've seen lately are the same red flags all of us in indoor football see all the time before an organization goes belly up. Believe me i've been their biggest advocate on these boards and have contiuously e-mailed them about putting their logo on their helmets and doing webcast for their fans but now you can't even send anything to their contact us section. I've been copying and pasting all the contact info and still sending stuff from my e-mail account. They haven't responded in weeks! Like I said I want to see them stay but what backing do you have to tell us they are? It sounds like you and 'nmscorpions' have told us every reson why they won't be around next year. (best logo in the AIFA)

FYI you could make the argument that the saints were saved my the league! Mr mink stepped in and ran and operated the team for the remainder of the season and at the end of the season he found someone who would buy the team and operate it successfuly that someone is Mr. Affleck! The saints are now the Utah Valley Tunder! They have better ownership and they have better staffs and players. Hopefully mink can step in at the end of the season and figure out what is going on and if he has to yank the team from the owners and find one who really cares and will atleast get the team to somewhat compete with the big boys! with this said NM i am pulling for you guys i have gained some realationships with players and staffs from every one of the teams in the west and i would hate for those to end

I know the story. Either way the "saints" ain't here anymore. Mr.Affleck replaced everything down to the name. That is a total replacement and not just taking over ownership. Apparently UVT and Ogden are suffering in the west along with NM per this article www.deseretnews.com/article/705308917/Football-teams-fight-to-survive.htmlThey shouldn't be talking having problems after 1 season. I could see maybe 4 years from now saying you know It's really starting to hurt with low ticket sales and sponsorship sales but after 1 season you should have articles about how excited you are about the future of the organization. These are all signs something is not going right. I think UVT has made great strides this year and I hope the whole west survives the obvious struggling times they are facing. :smileythunder: (man when they said they were going dark they weren't kidding)

its just natural for a new team to have growing pains in any league! they are just picking at the weak spots! we do actually already have a strong fan base and for having 3 monday night games we have done pretty well with putting butts in the seats

Name one franchise in any league that has done extreemly well in their first year in the league. Much less the AIFA. Every team will go through tough times and fortunately Mr. Affleck understands that and is in it for the long run. Of course there are issues, but nothing in that article came as a surprise to me. Now, if in the next couple years the financial crisis doesn't subside a bit, and our fan base doesn't grow, then it can be seen as a failure, but for any good business or organization, nothing comes easy or quick. Rule #1 when you start up a business is not to expect a revenue by at least year 3. Sure you want people to be excited about it, which they are. But there will always be naysayers especially in the Media. All I am saying is that good teams take time to build, and you have to be willing for things to pan out over time. As for New Mexico, I don't think they have that much time and they will end up going under because they lack someone who will do it right and be there for the long haul. Ogden? who knows... Mink might play the "league" card and save them hopefully, but the Thunder... they're here to stay :smileythunder:

I'm not saying they had to be profitable but I am saying they shouldn't say they are hurting from their first season in operation. Be a little more positive. It's just bad business and the one's who talk about it first usually go belly up first. The Lions have been in town for 3 years and have never released an article talking about low ticket sales and sponsorship sales. No they just maintain and stress that the Lions with Local ownershup will be around for a long time
I do wish the best for all the teams in the west. I'm sure if NM goes under there will be another team to replace them but I would expect the 'af2' to occupy that city. Any Takers?

Lionsroar.... You gotta realize the team has no say as to what the media publishes, who knows maybe the newspaper approached mr affleck on a positive note and he said lots of positive things but they chose to publish the parts about low ticket sales? this is the media we are talking about they twist and turn everything

That wasn't a great article, but remember, the quality of writer ain't what it used to be in the dying industry of journalism ... you need to spoon feed everything you want in the article ... and do it yourself with stories in media you control (web site, newsletters, ads)
This is my third team named Thunder, and I think this one is in the best market for potential success ... Frisco as well ... don't get me started on Daytona Beach .
