COLUMBUS, GA (June 2, 2009) – The Columbus Lions of the American Indoor Football Association are proud to announce the signing of linebacker Eric Johnson (6’0 241, Nebraska) formally of the AFL’s Georgia Force.
As a rookie in 2007, Eric played and started in 11 games for the Force posting 35.5 tackles, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one interception. In 2008, Johnson tallied 3.5 tackles and one sack in two games before being waived by the Force.
The former Cornhusker signed as undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders back in 2000 and participated in Super Bowl XXXVII where he scored a touchdown by returning a blocked punt for 13 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In four seasons with the Raiders (2000-03), Eric tallied 23 tackles and one interception. Johnson also spent time with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons (2004) and Arizona Cardinals (2005) before signing with the Georgia Force in 2007.
“To add the athletic ability of Eric that posses from going sideline to sideline is a strong addition to our defense,” says Head Coach Jason Gibson. “Bringing in Johnson should help put our defense at a championship level.”
