The Lions Trade Ashburn to Harrisburg
May 6, 2009(COLUMBUS GA.) - Coming off of a good first season with the Columbus Lions former starting quarterback Bill Ashburn will now be heading to Pennsylvania to play with the Harrisburg Stampede. No stranger to the area Ashburn is a Pennsylvania native; he attended Moon High School which is located near Pittsburg, PA. The trade comes after a strong showing by quarter back Kevin Huff this past weekend against the South Carolina Force. In his first career start of the season Huff went 14 of 20 with 5 passing touchdowns. The Lions also added 6’5’’ 220 pound rookie quarterback Todd Spitzer from Western Carolina to the roster.
Ashburn is heading to Harrisburg as the AIFA’s 9th rated passer with a quarterback rating of 98.3. As a starter for the Lions Ashburn was 5-2. He finished with the Lions completing 98 of 185 passes, 19 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions for 1042 yards. “Bill was great competitor and consummate professional while he was here, we wish him the very best in Harrisburg,” said General Manager Jeff Gonos.
The Lions head to Greenville SC this Saturday May 9 to take on the South Carolina Force in another Southern Division game.
