Force Coral Stampede!
“We finally got that monkey off our back!” explains GM and Head Coach Tony Wells after the 40-37 victory over the Harrisburg Stampede. “We knew it was a matter of time before we would start jelling as a unit.” The Force showcasing the third ranked passing offense in the league averaging 216 yds per game started off the game with a 45 yd touchdown on the games first play. Rookie QB Andrew Webb connected with WR Isaac West on the play and would prove to be a deadly combination all night. Webb finished the night 20-30 for 221 yds and three touchdowns. As West caught eight passes for 145 yds and three touchdowns.
This duo received some help from the 7th ranked defense in the AIFA giving up 197.7 yds per game. “The defense played phenomenal! Getting turnovers and defensive stops when we needed them was the key to us winning this game!” says Wells. “I think we came out with more intensity and wanted it more than Harrisburg did!” The defense picked off two passes and caused a fumble to help set up the game winning touchdown.
Special teams also were a major factor in the victory. Former Clemson Kicker standout, Jad Dean, may have been the deciding factor in the victory. Completing three of five PAT’s and one of two field goals. Where Jad was most effective was on his four kickoffs through the goal posts which earned the team one point a piece. “Getting 10 points out of our kicking was the deciding factor in our victory”, explains OL/DL Coach Rob McMackin. “Harrisburg is a very good team and beating them is a step in the right direction, but we still have a long way to go to be a contender for the AIFA Championship.
The Force will rest for a day before getting back to work, preparing for the 2008 AIFA Champions, the Florence Phantoms who are coming off a 50-49 victory over the Fayetteville Guard. The game will take place on April 11th at 7:00 pm in the Bi-Lo Center. Tickets are available online or call (864) 250-4918.
