I heard a rumor today that the Legends are going to fold in the near future.
As much as I have banged on them over the past couple of years, mainly for Retiring my beloved Renegades, I hate to hear this. It's never fun to see a team close up shop, and they have a great group of fans that deserve a team. I'm also sure that the team could have done well with the right ownership, and under the right economic conditions.
At least Legends fans can rest easy at night knowing their team did something that Erie and Reading never have. Win a championship!

Isn't this a little late in the offseason for this to come up?

If the UIF can boot a team the day before kickoff, six weeks isn't really that big a deal.
Better now than in the season. Arizona did it, too.

Still. I agree before the season is better than during the season.
But, was the league fooled by their finances, or was this on a wing and a prayer and just fell apart down the home stretch?

I should have started blogging sooner... Interestingly, I got an email from someone saying that they had been trying to purchase season tickets, but the team kept saying they "weren't ready." This might explain why. I guess I'm not shocked, but this still stings pretty bad. Hopefully we'll see the name back in football soon.

With great sadness this rumor is true. Canton folded Friday. The league tried to make it work to no avail. This will change the conferences again. And schedules, Baltimore has been inserted as our first home game in Erie a week earlier.
I feel so bad for Cantons fans. I've been there. Some knew it was coming. Ron had an excellent idea that could have worked, but no one in Canton listened. Hence him leaving his role with the fanclub and webmaster for Canton. You guys are always welcomed in Erie with open arms. I'll miss our games with you. And hanging out with the fans there.

My guess is that the presser from the team will never come.
I'm betting that the league will have to announce it.

I would be surprised if the league announces it!!
They didn't announce any of the other defects this year i don't see what would make the legends any different

The league announced that Erie was done, not the Freeze. I would not be surprised if players and coaches find out about it on the boards. Remember last year when the team was up for sale on eBay? The head coach found out because I called him ... not the owner, me. 'nuff said.

Ok. I still don't think they will say anything unless it's in a Canton local paper!!
I wouldn't expect them to talk about it on their website or AIFA weekly. Big mistake but one they continue to make whenever a team defects. Nothing was ever said about any of the south teams that didn't return. The Heroes weren't discussed or the Saints. They just put their hands in front of their face as if they don't see it and continue with "Business as usual".
Again I don't agree with it but this is what i see happening. At this point Bill "via digital audio" Hazen is failing to ask the right questions for us the fans.
