Just another situation that shows ownership not understanding that you have to show some monetary love to coaches that prove that they can put together a championship team. Another quality coach that is being asked to stick around for mere pennies on the dollar.

No shock there - this is just another organization that has had no guidance, and as such has no clue.

Bowens resigns as Phantoms coach
From local, staff reports Published: August 8, 2008
FLORENCE — Two weeks ago, Tavares Bowens was given a Gatorade bath by his players after his Florence Phantoms after routing Wyoming for the American Indoor Football Association championship.
On Friday, Bowens and the Phantoms parted ways. The 2008 AIFA coach of the year resigned from the team, citing personal and professional differences between him and Phantoms management.
“I am not convinced the organization, namely (Florence owner Barbara Spigner), is capable financially of negotiating a salary commensurate of my background and experience,” Bowens said in a statement released Friday. “As the head coach of the Florence Phantoms, I, along with my coaching staff and vice president of operations, Bennie King, worked tirelessly to create a winning culture here in the city of Florence.
“This city has shown quality support for the 2008 AIFA Champions and I wish them all the best.”
In addition to winning the AIFA title, Bowens guided the team to a 13-4 record, an Eastern Division championship and an Eastern Conference title.
“This is a business that is determined by championships,” King said. “Coach (Bowens) did everything he had to do, and he led a franchise that was dismal to a championship. We wish him well in his endeavors.
“I needed a coach two weeks before the season started, and he was there for me. I expect him to be somewhere doing great things in the future.”
Bowens said he loved living and working in Florence, but the nature of the business forced him to move on.
“Unfortunately, this is a business decision, and it is in the best interest that I move toward available opportunities that will appreciate a winning coach who gave his all to the team and his community,” he said. “I appreciate all of the proud supporters of this football team and will surely miss the fan interaction at the Civic Center.” www.scnow.com/scp/sports/minors/minors_football/article/bowens_resigns_as_phantoms_coach/12370/

First of all I must say to the city and fans that supported the 2008 Florence Phantoms I thank you for your support throughout the season. I never really come in here but, deemed it very necessary to set the record straight (Robert).
I am not one for idol talk, but I really dont appeciate your comments concerning me when you have no clue as to what conversations the owner and I have. I have done nothing but support you and uplift you throughout the season, however, I guess this is the real you in here.
Therefore, you are not worth me addressing anymore, because it would be a waste of my time. But I do encourage you to be true to who you are and speak facts, not heresies.
Not that it is anybodies business, but yes the owner and I had differences during the season, differences that had nothing to do with football. I understand at this level programs are not going to be run like an professional organization should run...especially when you have an en experienced owner and an en experienced staff.
You should know that I took this job only because Benny King needed me. There was not a winning model in place, there was not a winning attitude in place, there was not a championship desire in place. This city had not been to the playoffs nor even sniffed a 500 season until I showed up here. Now I did not do this alone, but my resume speaks for itself! I have won every where I have been, I have been to the playoffs every where I have been, I have played and coached in the biggest games...I say all of that to say this, I know what the hell I am doing!
It is this very thing that sows discord and disrupts the chemistry of good teams. I pray you spend more time and focusing on preserving things that matter (you know what I am talking about) rathan than things you don't know about.
I am dissapointed that I have to come in here and speak to something so childish and dis-tasteful. WE WON A CHAMPIONSHIP DUDE!!!!!! thats something you would have never accomplished had we not come to this city. Truth is, this city will never see another championship because the attitudes have not changed. comments like this are for losers.
You will never understand the work a coach puts in to be a champion because you spend more time complaining instead of trying to learn. I really thought you were better than this and I apologize to all of the board members and fans that have to read this. But there is only so much one can take, especially given the working conditions we were subject to.
I wish this city the best, they could have had something special for years to come, but I resigned because 1. I knew the owner did not have the money to pay me nor the MY staff I would bring in 2. There was no lasting committment maintain a winning team. 3. The failure to provide necessary resources to be effective at your job. 4. No committment to the team or WE. 5. Lack of committment and unprofessionalism in regards to conducting business. Disloyal/erractic decisions without the thought of the organization nor its members.
Saying all of this, you would have thought we had losing season. Champions find ways to win and we did !!!!
Id like to say thanks to the AIFAFANS!!!! I had fun interacting with most of you on the sidelines. Lets learn to support what we have, especially if you have something good! good things don't last long, you have to take in enough of the sunshine while the windows are open, because when the sun sets, all you have is the memories of those bright days.....
Be blessed....and Robert, keep my name out of your mouth!

I was aware of some of those things going on behind the scenes as i am sure a few other AIFAFANS were too. This is mostly why i was complaining about the Florence owner winning the "Owner of the Year" award. It should be more about overall performance than just whether an owners teams wins the championship or not. Day to day operations are just as vital & recognizable....
