KEARNS, Utah - Using the steady hand of Chad DeGrenier, and the good hands of Quincy Jackson, the Adrenaline scored 21 fourth-quarter points Saturday night in beating the Utah Saints, 48-34, in Utah.
The DeGrenier-Jackson duo first hooked up on a five-yard TD pass, coupled with Robert Jones' two-point conversion run to give the Adrenaline a 35-26 lead early in the fourth period.
Undaunted, Utah came right back with a long Matt Whistler to Aaron Lesue TD pass that cut the lead to 35-33. But once again, the Adrenaline passing combo came to the rescue.
This time Jackson leapt high in the end zone to make an acrobatic touchdown catch with 7:22 remaining. The seven-point lead, however, was in jeopardy as the Saints drove back inside the Adrenaline 10-yard line and were faced with a 4th-and-3 situation. That's when linebacker Chris Whitaker smothered a Utah running play at the line of scrimmage and put the ball back in the Adrenaline's hands.
For good measure, DeGrenier and Jackson hooked up one more time with 24 seconds remaining to put a cap on the night and improve the Adrenaline to 10-3 on the season, while Utah falls to 1-12.
With New Mexico upsetting Wyoming on Saturday, the Adrenaline could still finish with the same 11-3 record as the Cavalry, should the Adrenaline beat Wyoming this Saturday at Tim's Toyota Center. However, Wyoming has already clinched a first-round playoff game against the Adrenaline scheduled for July 4 in Casper.
Should the Adrenaline win the first round of the playoffs, they still stand a chance of hosting a second-round playoff game at Tim's Toyota Center.
DeGrenier threw for four TDs, three of them to Jackson and one to Maurice Bryant while Chino Valley's Robert Jones ran for three more TDs.
Defensively, AIFA sack leader Fernandez Shaw added to his total with three sacks on a night when the Adrenaline had four total.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Tim's Toyota Center.
