Awe thats just great*sarcastic*!!! Hate to be a pessimist but without Jones and Stewart we are as good as dead. Now that Jones is gone the only starter left on the team will probobly be Carter (bless him). Sorry but without Jones, Stewart, and our coaches we are fish bate (pun intended).

I noticed how the article says that the Cats have a road game in Columbus this Saturday. Did the writer do his homework? Columbus is at Fayetteville!

Be strong my Mudcat friends now more than ever you need to stay together. All of you the fans, the players all of you because seperated you will sure fall. In case you havent looked you are still in the playoffs just because you lost a few things doesnt not mean give up.
In answer to the Gentlemen from Rochester First of all, welcome to the AIFA it is indeed a honor to have you here. No organization whether it be the CIFL, WIFL, AF2, AIFA, IFL, or whatever it is will make it through a season without something going a stray. Some clubs deal with adversity better than others I see arena ball becoming more and more sucessful and I see the AIFA getting stronger. Just got to keep the faith and keep on fighting. The key reasons teams fail or as follows
1) bad lease with arena they play in prices too high, no share of parking revenue and concessions more important advertising space.
2) attendance lack of promotion for season ticket sales, lack of giving tickets away for ads in media. Very little attempt at selling tickets in off season.
3) Owners that aren't in it for the long haul want results right now these never make headway until year three and four.
4) Owners and Management with no expierence in coaching ranks should be requirement that most of staff have expierence in football. And all sales people should be in sales
5) Folks who feel that this is a six months out the year business its not its year round.
6) Staff who don't take advantage of the full resources they have in their community for promotion. Every community has high school football teams get in good with them.
This list can and does go on and on and on. Bottom line if you want one of these to work its not about the efforts of a few its about the efforts of many.

You bring up some great points, points we have been making to the other league and even our owner who while he has deep pockets does not want to keep losing money obviously. It is amazing how people cannot run a business. But when you are born into money and did not have to earn it that happens. Best of luck to all the Mudcat fans and players!

Off the record Id love to run one of these and trust me I have over 60 pages of notes and research from previous folks who have suceed and failed . You see to be good at this you have to have the talents of many, the love of the game and the drive of 4 x 4 pickup.
I beleave with the people I know and the get after attitude I have I could make one of these work. Rochester you will be fine also you have a great market just sell, sell, sell, all the time keep the faith.

I see more problems here than the CIFL. What have we gotten ourselves into? The CIFL has fewer problems, but they like to have them count. If it's not about a television deal, blaming someone else because you signed a crappy one, or announcing that Kevin Trudeau will have to find another time slot on FSN Pittsburgh...the AIFL doesn't really say anything about it. Not that the CIFL has terribly great PR themselves, but they do seem to do a fair amount more than the AIFL. I'm sure Jones will end up back in Odessa...again. No sympathy for Waide...you don't put together some power play to remove an owner when you haven't done any research on the financial troubles the team is in.

WHat the crud.....Those were the best coaches in the aifa.......and in the news article they make it seem as they are walking away and just want the money.....any coach/coaches with a 11-1 record and has had the best football team in the league would never walk away unless they already have somewhere to go which I don't think is the case....maybe people need to look more into this subject than just the coaches walking out ( I honestly don't think this is the case)

It sounds to me like they were told to take a cut or resign so they resigned. It's like they were forced out. SAD!

From WTVA (local NBC afiliate) www.wtva.com/cgi/display2.pl?view=news_story-1Financial Woes Lead to Players, Coaches Quitting Mississippi Mudcats Four coaches and three players have quit Tupelo's only minor league sports team after learning they would not be paid postseason bonuses. The Mississippi Mudcats held a news conference Thursday where team owner Jim Waide explained what was happening financially. Waide said he could not afford to pay everyone bonuses that they were entitled to since the indoor football team had made the playoffs. Instead, Waide paid off the contracts of the seven employees, including head coach Brian Brents. The owner said the Mudcats will continue playing its two remaining regular season games as well as any playoff games..

video from WCBI (CBS affiliate) www.wcbi.com/sports/Interview with Brian Brents and Tommy Jones Interview with Gary Patterson Something Gary said clicked with me. He said that Waide wanted them to wrap up the season basically for free. Interesting. Both coaches said they understand why Waide did it. Waide is doing everything he can to keep the team. Also, LB Keith Turner resigned. OK I've had enough for now, I am going to bed.

A trained monkey can coach that kind of talent. For my money I would take Shawn Liotta or Bernie Nowatowski any day as a head coach. Both do incredible jobs with a lot less talent at key positions. And neither pays an exhorbitant amount for their star players.

You don't honestly believe that the Mudcats ownership would pay players more than the league allows? If that was happening this situation that we are in now would have happened months ago.

More from the Daily Journal www.djournal.com/pages/story.asp?ID=275158&pub=1&div=SportsQuick transition for MudCats 6/20/2008 1:38:13 AM Daily Journal BY JOHN L. PITTS Daily Journal TUPELO - The introduction of a new head coach is often a happy affair. But the faces were mainly somber Thursday afternoon as William McCarthy was introduced as the interim coach of the Mississippi MudCats. "I guess everyone in the business wants to be a head coach, but not like this," McCarthy said. "I hate having to do this, but somebody must, so we can carry on with our season. Hopefully, we can still bring a championship to Tupelo." The sudden resignation of all the MudCats' top coaches earlier in the day left majority owner Jim Waide needing to make a quick decision. After all, the team's bus for Saturday's game at Augusta, Ga., leaves today at 9:30 a.m. Waide said his first thought was to promote veteran receiver Darryl Carter to coach, but AIFA rules prohibit such a move.Other MudCats players were adamant that Carter -who has scored 23 touchdowns this season - was needed on the field. Their choice, Waide said, was McCarthy, the team's line coach. "The players I talked with said they felt we could not win without Darryl Carter on the field," Waide said, who praised Carter as "the absolute epitome of what we want in the Mississippi MudCats." With the departure of star quarterback Tommy Jones, Carter now becomes the MudCats' franchise player -with a resulting salary bump from $250 a game to $500. Little-used backup Aries Nelson, who played at Mississippi State and Mississippi Valley State, steps up as the starting QB. "This is a big hit for us, but from the players' standpoint, we have put in the work to get to this point and we want to see it through," said Carter, a Tupelo High assistant football coach. "Everybody who's staying wants to finish this thing." Appeared originally in the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 6/20/2008, section D , page 1
