Was told that Coaches Brents, Patterson, and Broussard resigned effective today due to financial constraints. What does this do for our chances in the playoffs. Is there still a team? WTF is going on?

www.djournal.com/pages/story.asp?ID=275111&pub=1&div=NewsUPDATE:MudCats coaches quit 6/19/2008 12:22:03 PM Daily Journal By John L. Pitts Daily Journal TUPELO - All three primary coaches of the Mississippi MudCats indoor pro football team resigned this morning in a dispute about their pay. The coaches walked away with two regular-season road games remaining and the MudCats already assured of an American Indoor Football Association playoff game at BancorpSouth Arena on July 5. Head coach Brian Brents, 27, who has led the team since its inception last season, confirmed that he and assistants Gary Patterson and Kirk Broussard submitted their resignations to majority owner Jim Waide. Brents said Waide, a Tupelo attorney, had asked for the three coaches to “make some cuts,” including a restructuring of their compensation deals, in a morning meeting. “I knew the organization was struggling,” said Brents, “but this hit me hard.” Brents and his staff guided the MudCats to a 12-4 record in its inaugural season last year, losing in the second round of the playoffs. The team is 11-1 this season and faces a road trip to Columbus, Ga., for a game on Saturday – with a dramatically revised coaching staff and a roster that will be depleted of at least a few familiar faces. Veteran lineman William Stewart, an AIFA All-Star last year, told the Daily Journal this morning that he was calling it a career. “I’m fed up,” said Stewart, a Pontotoc native who works as an assistant football coach at South Panola High School. “We had a great chance to win this thing,” Stewart said. “I regard this as a slap in the face to all of us.” Stewart said he expected at least one other “major player” would leave the team in the wake of today’s news. Waide has called a 4 p.m. news conference at his office to discuss today’s developments. Reportedly, MudCats assistant William McCarthy – the team’s line coach and special teams coordinator – will serve as head coach on an interim basis. Check Friday's Daily Journal for more developments on this story. Appeared originally in the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 6/19/2008, section 0 , page 0

I am stunned!!!!! This is horrible!!!!! I know that Jim Waide has got to be trying to figure a way to keep the team next season, BUT to lose the coaches and a couple of key players? WOW!!!! All Star center William Stewart is gone. That is HUGE! I would guess he is not the last. I would bet that Darryl Carter and Tommy Jones will leave, too. Tommy will find work elsewhere without a problem. Carter lives here and will not be leaving. WOW!!!!

:Mudcat fans need to speak out on behave of your team.. The owner is making it sound like the coaches are running out on the team. In reality the owner just slap the coaches, team and fans in the face. This team had the potential to go all the why to the championship game(coaches dream) now you may not win another game. These coaches have familys to take care of and can't work for free. You would think Mr. Waide would show some kind of appreciation for what this team and coaches have accploshished this season and even last season. Maybe Mr. Waide should have said thank instead of kicking them the door.

Personally I think budget adjustments should not be made during the season. I know Waide has been strapped for cash this season because he has been paying for last season at the same time. I had a great conversation with Mr. Waide at the end of last season before he took over the team completely (he was a 25% owner at the time). He paid me the money that the previous ownership owed me. We talked about plans for the team and he had nothing but good to say about the coaches. I do not believe any of this was personal. He was probably trying to restructure to justify keeping the team here for next season. But it does not make sense to restructure and tick off the coaches with 2 pay periods left in the season. I can't blame Brian, Gary, and Kirk for resigning. They are good coaches that will find work with other teams next season. I can also understand the thoughts of the player(s) that leave because of this. The team is like a family.
Good luck guys!
I really hope everything can be worked out to keep the team for next year. But this move may make area fans stay home. If that happes, the Mudcats may be gone, too.

Mr. Waide has complained all season about not having enough fans attend the games. Lets see how many fans he has now. I don't think I will be attending another game as long as he is still the owner. It is my understanding that he didn't want to have the play off games in Tupelo even after the team

This football team and coaches are like a famly, the coaches would never have left this team if they had any other choice. They were force out. Mr. Waide is just trying to make the coaches look bad.

Hey folks I am sorry my heart goes out to you. I hate to see it for all of us esspecially the fans these teams take alot of hard work dedication and arent for the faint at heart. This aint just about winning games its about sponsorships, attendance, community relations, and building respect in the community from the arena on out. Probably before the end of the month they will be others dealing with their own misfortunes Ive kinda always said Id like one of these and have the plan to make one work we were on our way before but you cant do this in just a year it takes years and long hours and alot of hard work. Good luck my Mudcat frends my thoughts are with you.

I hope the team doesn't come unglued and just go for the championship they have fought for all year! some players may feel strong enough about the coaches or about the owners questionable moves late in the season to leave but I hope most of them feel like the last 12 weeks haven't been for nothing!
..........They still deserve their chance at a title and game footage if they want it!
I hope their fans still give them the respect they deserve and show up to a great play-off game in their home city because their team has proven they are a great show on turf!
Sorry to have read the events that have unfolded in Tupelo guys! Look past the owner cos this may be the last time you get to see them! You can't control the future unless you can invest in them so stick with them til the Daily journal says they're gone! I hope after July 5th we can continue a rivalry in '09
goodluck

The worse part is that the playoffs are right around the corner. I dont blame them for leaving just wished they could have stayed till the season was over. :smileymudcats: :smileymudcats: :smileymudcats:

WTVA is reporting Tommy Jones left the team along with William Stewart.
WOW!!!
If I have the money, I will go to the playoff game to support the players.
