On Saturday, October 27th, the Baltimore Mariners hosted their 1st open try-out at Myer's Soccer Pavilion in Baltimore. Over 70 hopefuls made the trip in the pouring rain to vie for their spot on the Mariners roster. The prospects were put through a battery of speed and agility tests including the 40 yard dash, the left and right shuttle, and standing broad jump.
Upon conclusion of the initial testing, the hopefuls were allowed to show head coach Chris Simpson exactly why they deserve to wear the navy and gold colors of the Baltimore Mariners. Along side of Coach Simpson were team and league owners John Morris and Michael Mink.
Morris and Mink were very active in the work-out with the candidates. Michael Mink logged over 200 passes to the Wide Receiver prospect corps. Co-Owner John Morris worked with the QB's and Coach Simpson in developing plays for five on five drills.
Prior to beginning the days testing, John Morris gathered the hopefuls around him and delivered a motivational speech, holding out in front of him for the attendees to see, the jewel encrusted Lakeland Thunderbolts AIFA championship ring. Encouraging all those trying for a spot, to give it all they have, Morris kept driving home the fact that through their hard work, they can one day, adorn their finger with a championship ring.
