It was a close race folks, but according to aifainbaltimore.com/ the Baltimore Mariners bulled ahead and won the name contest. Sure, this means no season tickets for me, but so be it. So, I guess it is time to say welcome Baltimore Mariners Fans!

d**n, now we gotta pick a mascot too? This is getting to be to much like work. BTW, what happened to our old home forum? ? First the PMs stopped working and now the site is "DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE"? I'm thinking it's more a case of "DOWN FOR GOOD". I know there is going to be alot of really ticked off Baltimore fans if I am right. Wondering aloud, I wonder if we Baltimore fans will ever again have our own website/forum. As it is now, when you go to the fan section and select forum, it bringings you right back here. Sorry to say it, but TACKY!!!! Part of what made the Baltimore fanbase what it is or was, is that we had our own home to discuss what was important to us. We have or had a certain brotherhood that was fostered stronger as we endured the the seemingly neverending string of winless games. And imagine if you will, our joy and rapture when we all shared in that 1st (and only) win. Well, most of us did, some people NEVER got to see the Blackbirds win right Dave? Anyway, my point is that I hope that maybe the Blackbirds website will rise again like a Phoenix under the new Mariners banner. If not, it will be another sad passing.

Kev, The Mariners will have their own website. The domain name has already been registered. As soon as colors and logos are established I am sure the website will be up and running. Every team has an individual website and I am sure the same will be for the Mariners.

wow --- a mariner huh? I sure did like the whole "Steamer" thing much better---- guess the colors will be blue and white with a compass involved and a typical white haired man that looks like a light house keeper for the mascot? Those steamy red crabs sure would have been a nice sell. Good luck guys and welcome aboard.

I can picture it now. A Mariner mascot with a ships steering wheel in the pants. And someone inquiring about it being in it's pants. And the mascot replying," Argh,it's driving me nuts!"

They could also go with a Gortens fisherman like logo. Though i did hear from a very reliable source that they bought the copyrights to Captain Noah and are gonna use a logo of his ark with he and Mrs Noah.
From dictionary.com here is the meaning: 1. a person who directs or assists in the navigation of a ship; sailor.
Captain Noah fits the bill. Moses was a mariner too, wasnt he. Does he count?

I am pretty sure once they get things settled with the Mariners then they'll get a site & forum up. The fact that the forum link points to here now is, IMO, better then if it didnt take you anywhere.

Now the opponents are gonna yell "FISHSTICKS!" (Just like the New York Islanders' opponents did when they saw the Isles in their new digs)

I guess i agree with you gene. I was venting, but I'm sure that my venting is nowhere near as bad as those blackbirds fans that have yet to cross over to the AIFA website and the new Baltimore team. I just have a feeling that there are going to be a significant number of BB fans that were active on that board that are now going to feel that they have been screwed over by the AIFA once again. I'm not saying that the AIFA isa not totally witin their rights, but sometimes you need to put off taking the obvious next step if it means ultimately winning over the fanbase. I guess we will all just have to wait andsee how it pans out. Luckily, I got an email distirbution list of some of the key contributors on that site, and I'm sure Dave may have more than me. At least we can get ahold of some of these folks as the new team info progresses.

Teams that are in the league one year and out the next is a huge turn off. In your situation its hard to trust another team/front office & ownership group again.

Well, I am pretty much on board with the new team, but a few of the folks I chat with regularly are not. They are taking a "wait and see attitude". That's fair. I am not here to sway them, just to try and see that they look at the situation from both sides. I predicted that the website would probably get shut down before to long. I'm sad to say that my prediction appears to have come true. Just hope that we can get the place feeling like the old home that we all loved so much, but if certain people are missing, it won't feel quite the same. Fingers crossed.
