I made this catergory(former teams) to save a piece of history. This way, everyone can look back and see what helped make our league what it is today.

Joe, shouldn't you include some teams from the AIFL days as well? Like the Stampede? I knw there were others, but I can't remeber them...

I have toyed around with the idea of doing a historical section for the AIFL/AIFA. I have mentioned it to Joe a couple of times. I do have a pretty good collection of stats, logos and photos from a number of the defunct teams that played here in the past. I really would like to be able to share the history with the fans. Especially the newer ones. Maybe with our new found freedom, I can look more seriously into doing something with this. I do appreciate the interest, it just shows me that we do need to document the history of the league somewhere on this forum!

Please, the Stampede do not need another message board to go unused Nice thought to remember them. But again, I thought the AIFL and AIFA were seperate leagues? Sykotyk

I wasn't planning on doing message boards. What I would like to do is document ALL of the teams that play/played in the AIFL/AIFA. I have logos of the teams, records and stats, game programs and merchandise, along with a large collection of photos of games and the arenas. What I would like to do is to be able to document the history of the league on a year by year basis. That way if people wanted to look back to a certain team or year they would be able to do that. I'm not sure if I would do it here or somewhere else. At some point I plan on talking to Gene, our tech expert about the possibility of doing this. I'm not sure if we could put it on the AIFAFANS Main Page. If I can't find place for it, I would probably make a MySpace account for it. But again this will be something that will take some time to assemble initially, (3+ years' of history) but will be easy to maintain on a yearly basis once we get it up.
I'm sure that fans would like to see something like the Carolina Sharks Logo, An original franchise that ended up never playing a game and turning into the Ghostriders. Or pictures of the Syracuse Soldiers and the OneCenter Arena. Even info on Andrew Haines, who whether you like him or not, is the reason that we have this league and the indoor football that comes from it. Remember, it was his idea and vision that laid the groundwork for what we now have and enjoy. No matter what else he has done, I will always be grateful for him creating the AIFL.

Same here, Scooter. Without him, Steubenville would've never been considered for a team as nobody local has ever stepped forward to buy them.
I have a lot of Stampede regalia I can submit if you'd like. Game programs, roster sheets, etc.

Game programs, roster sheets, etc. Sykotyk I know a guy that was going to buy the Steubenville team but after meeting with local officials and sponsors he bailed. And this guy lives within sight of the arena there. The reason he bailed is that the locals told him they would prefer he filled the team with local talent and if he didnt they wouldnt support him. This guy bought a team in another league which is having problems getting off the ground as well but that has nothing to do with him, the league screwed up. I know this to be fact as he approached me to work his front office when the RiverRats announced the move but I decided to stay with the Rats. This guy would love to put a team in Steubenville and he would also like to put it in the AIFA but the locals there screwed that up.

One, I don't want to see the AIFA in Steubenville, Wheeling, etc.
I know several people were interested in either buying a team or starting a new one in Steubenville. Most were either turned off by how Ramone handled the end of the second season, and also partly because Steubenville is a very 'pro-Steubenville' area. The team had decent, but not great, support when it was mostly Big Red and CCHS players.
Steubenville is a town, like many other indoor markets, that have to be 'proven' to that their local players don't cut it.
And sponsorship around here is a joke. After Jeff K and Ramone, it'd take quite some time and ass-kissing to get a lot of the local sponsors to plunk down money.
