Speed Drops Home Opener

CONCORD, N.C. - The Tallahassee Titans had no trouble putting points on the scoreboard.

Maybe more importantly to coach Keven Jackson, his defense nearly shut down Carolina in the second half.

Ben Dougherty passed for 242 yards and six touchdowns as Tallahassee defeated the Carolina Speed 62-44 in the Titans' inaugural game in the American Indoor Football Association on Monday.
Dougherty and Co. did most of their damage against the Speed early, jumping out to a 48-30 lead going into halftime.

Some defense, however, was played. Eugene Dunn had 11 tackles for the Titans, who had five interceptions. They also held the Speed to just one touchdown in the second half.

The Titans play their home opener at 7 p.m. Saturday against Gulf Coast at the Civic Center.

As defensive coordinator for the Legends, we noticed that the team would consistently shut down opponents in the second half.

KJ makes excellent half time adjustments. If you go with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" offensive mentality at halftime, you won't score in the second half. Period.
