TUPELO – The triggerman for the Mississippi MudCats’ prolific offense from last season will be back under center this spring.
Quarterback Tommy Jones has re-signed with the indoor pro football team, it was announced at a news conference on Thursday.
Jones, who played his college football at Indiana, passed for 102 touchdowns as the MudCats went 12-4 in their inaugural season, averaging 59.5 points per game.
He was joined by two other players from last season with NeMiss ties – Shannon’s Travis Johnson, a defensive back who player at Ole Miss; and Ripley’s Rico McDonald, a Delta State record-setter who can line up at running back, receiver and defensive back.
The MudCats will open camp next Thursday in West Point, with workouts to begin Feb. 29. The team’s first game will be March 22 against the Fayetteville (N.C.) Guard at the BancorpSouth Arena.
Also Thursday, details about the MudCats’ youth football league were announced, including the six NeMiss towns to be represented and their coaches.

This is great news. Tommy Is a top notch QB, Travis is a tough DB, and Rico can play almost any position on the field. I remeber a game where Rico had kick return for a td, a reception for a td, and an INT. Looking forward to the season! :smileymudcats:
