MudCat coaching staff set to return next season
11/15/07 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) Mississippi Mudcats
(Tupelo,Ms) Yhe Mississippi MudCats Announce today the re-signing of there Coaching staff for the 2008 Season.
Brian M. Brents - Head Coach/Director of Football Operations Coach Brents, a native of Crane, TX, is in his second season as head coach for the Mississippi Mudcats. Brian played wide receiver for Abilene Christian University, and finished up his degree at the University of Texas Permian Basin. Coach Brents helped build the Odessa Roughnecks, of the IFL, into a playoff caliber team in 04, and returned in 05 as the offensive coordinator helping them to a 16-1 season. In 2006 Coach Brents helped turn around the Lakeland Thunderbolts from a 6-9 team to a 13-3 divisional championship team. In his first season for the MudCats, Coach Brents and his staff led the MudCats to a 12-4 record, and an appearance in the AIFA south Conference Championship. Coach Brents and his staff capped of a great 2007 year by being selected to coach the AIFA South All Stars Team as well. On a personal note Coach Brents and his wife Rachel are expecting the first child this next season.
Gary Patterson - Defensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach Born in Odessa, TX, Gary graduated from Permian High School where he lettered in football and graduated in '94. Gary has played or coached football for the past 12 years at various levels. He is currently finishing up his Bachelors in Biology/Kinesiology degree at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Gary enters his second season with the Mudcats as Defensive Coordinator. Coach Patterson led the MudCats defense to a conference championship appearance. Along with a great year on the field the defense had a great year off as well, with 2 defensive players moving on to AFL. "I am very excited about Joe (Clark), and Derrick (White) moving on, but look forward to new players stepping up this season", says Coach Patterson. Gary has spent 3 seasons as the OL/DL coach with the Odessa Roughnecks. While with the Roughnecks he made the Conference Championship in 04, had an undefeated season in 05, and won the IFL Championship in 06. Gary also helped lead the Roughnecks to a number 1defensive ranking in 2005 and again in 2006.
Kirk Broussard - Director of Player Personnel/Co-Offensive Coordinator Kirk is a Native of New Orleans, LA. And has resided in Pensacola, Florida from a young age. Also graduating from B.T. Washington High school in 1995 where he was a 3 year letterman in track and field and football for the 6A State football champs, also earning #14 USA Today ranking. During his college career he played free safety for Citrus College in California. He enters his second season with the Mississippi MudCats as Co-Offensive Coordinator/ Director of Player Personnel while having over 4 years of coaching/scouting experience at both the collegiate and Indoor/arena football levels. He served as fullbacks linebackers coach/ player personnel director for the MudCats he was the instrumental piece to the puzzle responsible for recruiting and signing the majority of the MudCat roster from last seasons 12-4 AIFA conference championship runner up. Kirk joined the MudCats last season from the 2006 Lakeland Thunderbolts were he served a pro player personnel director/ Offensive Assistant. The Thunderbolts finished 13-3 and also appeared in the NIFL conference championship. Kirk has established a reputation in minor league football for being an outstanding recruiter and having a sharp eye for talented up coming players. He has helped over 13 players in the last two-season get opportunities to advance to NFL, CFL and AFL leagues. He also established his own company in 2006 Under Rated Free Agents football camps a service designed to help over looked college players get a opportunity to work out for pro coaches around the southeast. Coach Broussard is a young coach known for being a strong motivator with a vast knowledge of the game. He has been apart of winning teams as a player and coach at every level high school, college and professional programs. His desire to WIN drives him to put a great product on the field for many seasons to come.
