Bears lose opener at Mississippi
TUPELO, Miss. -- The Montgomery Bears committed five turnovers and had a kick blocked Saturday night in losing their American Indoor Football Association season opener at Mississippi, 57-27.
The Bears, formerly the Montgomery Maulers, now have a week off before play at Carolina on Feb. 26. The Bears' first home game is March 24 at Garrett Coliseum against Tallahassee.
Quarterback Tyvon Green was 15-of-28 passing for 189 yards and two touchdowns. However, he was intercepted twice and fumbled twice.
Charlie Rollins had five receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown and Shaun Holmes had three receptions for 28 yards.
The game was tied 7-7 after one quarter, but the Mudcats built a 24-14 halftime lead and held a 37-20 advantage after three quarters.
Montgomery (0-1) outgained Mississippi 216-169 in total yards.
