Titans cut roster to 30, prepare for debut

The Tallahassee Titans cut six players - Chris Archie, Marcus Ardley, David Atwell, Chris Ayers, Derek Braxton and James Young - on Tuesday.

The Titans had to cut down their roster from 40 to 30, and coach Keven Jackson said he will put four or five more players on injured reserve to meet the Arena Indoor Football Association's roster requirements. Two of those players are Ted Dixon and Greg McNeally, Jackson said.

“It was very tough,” Jackson said of the cuts. “I've been in the same situation before as a player.”

Just making the team, however, doesn't guarantee a paycheck. Jackson is allowed to activate 18 players each game - and only those will be paid $200.

The team has also named Leon High graduate David Kelly as its offensive coordinator. Kelly played baseball at Tallahassee Community College and Florida State, and also was a backup quarterback for the Tallahassee Thunder indoor football team.

Jackson, who won the league title as the defensive coordinator at Canton in 2006, will coach the Titans' defense.

The Titans open their inaugural season on the road on Feb. 12 against North Carolina and play Gulf Coast in the home opener on Feb. 17. 2007 TITANS ROSTERDL James Banner
