After a four-month process, the Florence Phantoms’ search for a new owner has ended.
The American Indoor Football Association announced Thursday Keith Jordan will become the new owner of the Phantoms, replacing Joey Shannon, who ceased ownership due to health reasons in July.
Jordan will take part in the league’s owners meetings, which begin today in Baltimore.
“We spent four months searching for a new owner and (Jordan) was the fourth person interviewed,†said AIFA president and co-owner John Morris, who has been serving as the Phantoms’ interim owner. “He was exactly what we were looking for.â€
“I am very impressed with Keith and what he is bringing to the Phantoms,†Florence Civic Center general manager Kendall Wall said. “After the instability the team has had the past two years, (the AIFA) wanted to bring in someone who will keep the team in Florence.â€
Jordan owns and is CEO of Eagle Mortgage Solutions and Global Kingdom Builders in Lumberton, N.C. He also is the regional director of the National Motor Club, and it was this kind of solid business background that was key to Jordan’s selection by the league. Morris said he and the league took the extra time to make sure the right person was picked to run the team.
“We wanted to find the right person to fit in with the team,†he said. “It’s harder to do things the right way, but it’s more rewarding in the end.“
Morris said he and AIFA co-owner Michael Mink will continue as managing partners until December, when he feels the transition will be complete.
“I didn’t want to put Keith in a position where he would be thrown to the wolves,†he said. “The (AIFA) wants to put him in the best possible position to give him the best possible opportunity to put the best possible product in Florence and give the fans good football.â€
“I think it’s a good and encouraging idea that John and Michael will continue to run the team until December and make sure that Keith comes in with a clean slate,†Wall said. “The new coach is place and hopefully, so is the ownership.â€
