Excellent game Phantoms. I was biting my nails till the end. You got some really good players down there but Im not sold on your coach. He fell apart and your guys fed off that. Need a stronger personality to hold em together when it gets rough. But like I said, your team played well and took it to the final seconds. BTW I hope #23, Cory Groover is OK. He took a header into the boards and was out cold for a few minutes. He walked off the field under his own power but looked a little shakey. I hope hes OK.

Yeah it was a great game....it was anybodies game down to the last second! Cory is doing good, said he was seeing stars for awhile..he wanted to go back in. Yeah when the Ref's made some of those messed up calls, like the "do over" he kinda lost it, but he is a great coach. It didn't help much that 3 of our best linemen were hurting pretty bad too. What did you think of the Ref's? When was the last time you heard of a "Do Over" in professional sports?

I knew right away they didnt know how to handle the inadvertant whistle. The ball hit the dasher pad which is still in play but the ref was anticipating it hitting the glass and started to blow the whistle. When it didnt hit the glass he had the ultimate "oh nuts" moment. I was the game announcer and I had a good view from the score keepers box and to be honest, the call may have benefitted the Phantoms because Tywan Napper had one man to beat on the left side and he was gone. Most of the coverage got blocked to the middle and there was a huge hole from the hash mark to the boards and Napper is pretty dam elusive. When I heard the whistle I knew it was going to be an issue for both teams. A do-over was all they could do at that point. I thought the refs mistakes evened out although the offensive pass interference on Pittsburgh was kinda funny. The previous play Brandon Jackson literally ran over the side judge and he yelled at him all the way back to the huddle. The next play the side judge locked his eyes on Jackson the whole play and as soon as there was contact the flag came out. As Jackson walked back to the huddle the side judge made a comment to the effect of "let that be a lesson". I thought it was hysterical because the side judge was about 5'7 and 140 soaking wet. Jackson just gave him a "whatever man" and walked away. Good luck the rest of the year....

I don't think better Ref's would have made much of a difference, it's just the fact that we want to be the best league, the one all the top players strive to get into (short of the NFL of course), well that's not going to happen until we get some officials that actually know the rules and can call a good game by the rules. You did a great job announcing by the way, I was the equipment manager for Florence. Let me say also that everyone on the RiverRats staff was great, some of these places we go the guys can't wait to leave, but there half the team wanted to hang out at the Bar/Restaurant and relax, pretty cool.
