The Florence Phantoms got off to a great start tonight here at the Florence Civic Center, pulling away from the Carolina Speed late for a 64 - 36 victory. It was close thru 3 quarters, but it looked like the Carolina Speed ran out of gas.
Congrats to new coach Charlie Brown for getting his first win right out of the gate. Florence's defense was the big story of this game, with 2 interceptions and a 4-down goal line stand early on. Now it is time for a road trip.

Thanks, for the report DP, Coop s an old friend of ours. He played for us with the Erie Invaders in 2000. One of his former teammates plays for us now, WR Manny Johnson. Coop had 2000+ all purpose yards for us that season.

I remember from last year that Coop was a popular guy. We are lucky to have him. He picked up the Speed rusher all night long... I don't think Rathe was even touched. Not much running room though. He broke some kick returns for TDs last year, as I recall. I expect more of the same from him this year.

Thanks Chuck. I am glad to get the first win behind us early. Hopefully the Phantoms can ride this momentum for a while.
