The AIFA continues to grow and provide its players with as many opportunities to advance as possible. This past weekend is just another example of The AIFA and its team’s commitment to promote the league and the talent pool that each team has this season.
The Reading Express coaches spent this past weekend with The Columbus Destroyers and The Philadelphia Soul. GM/Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski explains that on Thursday, Friday and Saturday his Offensive Coordinator/Asst.GM Chris Thompson and Line Coach Kenny Miller were in Columbus and spent that time with the coaching staff, the players and the front office staff. They were given an open invitation to be a part of this AFL’s teams daily routine, from meetings to practices, being part of their drills and discussing other aspects of our sport and even team meals. On Sunday morning, Nowotarski’s entire staff including team owner Ted Lavender met at 5:30am and made their way to The Philadelphia Soul camp in Voorhees, New Jersey. Again the welcome mat was out for the group. We were able to tour the facility and work ourselves into the Soul’s daily routine. We had one on one time with coaches and players. We were invited to the Nova Care Center (Practice Home of the Philadelphia Eagles) and were able to be apart of their entire practice.
We made some great contacts this weekend. We picked up a great deal from both coaching staffs. We also provided them with some football insight. The AFL has changed their Linebacker play to the same type that we play here in the AIFA. So they had some questions for us also. It was an awesome weekend for both the AIFA and The Reading Express. I think its part of the reason why 68 players from our league moved up last year. I only see that number going up as our league improves with each year and our talent continues to excel.
I would like to take the time to again publicly Thank both AFL organizations, The Columbus Destroyers and The Philadelphia Soul and their Head Coaches Doug Kay and Bret Munsey for their openness, professionalism and hospitality. As well as Assistant Coaches Ken Mateous(Destroyers) and Jerry Odom(Soul) as well as all the Assistant Coaches, interns, trainers and front office staff for this experience.
Respectfully,
Bernie Nowotarski
