Loss at home leaves Folmar looking for answers

Johnstown coach Steven G. Folmar didn’t foresee being winless after two games in the American Indoor Football Association.
But that’s where the Riverhawks are following a 35-24 loss to Huntington on Friday night at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
The Riverhawks committed four turnovers in the first half: Two fumbles and a pair of interceptions.
“We have a lot of guys that just aren’t getting it done,” said Folmar, who is in his first year with the Riverhawks. “We’re turning the ball over, and not getting the turnover. It’s obvious that maybe I just need to find some more talented people. Right now, we’re just not a very good team.”
Huntington scored on its first two offensive possessions and capitalized on Riverhawks quarterback Waylon Davis’ fumble at his 5. Heroes lineman Jamus Martin picked up the miscue and went in from the 4.
“Anytime you are 0-and-whatever, it’s bad,” Heroes second-year coach Garry McPeek said. “So, we were happy to get the win. It’s always a great place to play.”
The Heroes held the Riverhawks to 61 total yards in the first half, 51 through the air.
Huntington quarterback Jimmy Skinner threw for a pair of scores, including an 11-yard pass to Leonard Moore. Skinner finished 20-of-34 for 184 yards.
Heroes fullback Donte Newsome scored on runs of 13 and 2 yards and also hauled in a Skinner pass from the 5.
Newsome gained 66 yards, mostly on direct-snap rushes.
Heroes kicker Nick Kelly added a 20-yard field goal just before intermission.
The Heroes led 28-13 at the half, but the Riverhawks could only muster a Jason Cherry 43-yard field goal, the only scoring in the third quarter, and a 9-yard keeper from back-up quarterback Jarrod Highberger with 1:14 left in the game.
Quenteen Robinson caught a 19-yard touchdown from Davis in the first quarter, and Michael Feeney ran it in from the 1 in the second.
The Riverhawks have a bye in Week 3 followed by back-to-back road games. Johnstown hits the road for the first time, traveling to Danville, Ill., on Feb. 23, then visits Erie on March 4, followed by another off week.
The Riverhawks’ next home game is March 17 against expansion Pittsburgh.
“I don’t know what else I can do,” Folmar said. “I wish I had an answer right now.”
