Johnstown Football Products to Appear at Hawks Game
1/7/06 JOHNSTOWN, PA – This Friday’s Riverhawks game vs. the Huntington Heros will also showcase former Johnstown area products Artrell Hawkins, a free safety with the New England Patriots, and the Canadian Football League’s leading receiver in 2006, Geroy Simon. Both athletes will participate in the pre-game coin toss as well as sign autographs after the game. Hawkins, a nine-year veteran of the National Football League, is currently a safety with the New England Patriots after spending a year with the Carolina Panthers and the previous seven years as a cornerback with the Cincinnati Bengals. Artrell’s 102-yard interception return for a touchdown against David Carr and the Houston Texans on November 3, 2002 is still the 2nd longest in NFL history. Hawkins is the son of Artrell and Althea Hawkins of Johnstown and graduated from Bishop McCort High School.Simon, a graduate of Johnstown High School, is the current Canadian Football League Most Valuable Player after catching 105 passes for 1,856 yards and 15 touchdowns while leading the British Columbia Lions to the Grey Cup Championship this past season. His yards this past season broke the all-time receiving total in B.C. history. Simon also ended his college career at the University of Maryland as the Terrapins 2nd all-time leading receiver with 2,059 yards on 185 receptions.The Johnstown Riverhawks, a proud member of the American Indoor Football Association, will host the Huntington Heros this Friday night at the Cambria War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
