Riverhawks Find Talent in New Castle
01/01/07 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) Johnstown RiverHawks
JOHNSTOWN, PA - On Saturday, December 30, the Johnstown Riverhawks of the American Indoor Football Association held a regional tryout in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Despite a turnout of only a dozen or so players, the coaching staff was content with the level of talent that turned out. Many players were athletes that head coach Steven G. Folmar and his coaching staff had spoken to and had wanted to see in person. "Sometimes when you have tryouts outside your market, you don't get the numbers that you would see closer to home. But there were some guys in the western area of Pennsylvania that we wanted to see and this gave us our chance." Coach Folmar believes that some players in attendance may end up playing for the Hawks this season, "We had some talented guys out there, a few we will see again. We had a couple of guys who were nicked up after coming out of their senior college season so we need to get them healed up and see how they look."
The tryout was held at the New Castle Y-Zone, a beautiful indoor facility that is a division of the New Castle YMCA. Participants were tested in the 40-yard dash, pro shuttle and L-shuttle drills as well as other more position specific drills. Johnstown plans on having their final tryout in the Johnstown area on January 13, just prior to the Riverhawks opening up training camp on January 16, 2007.
The Johnstown Riverhawks, a proud member of the American Indoor Football Association will kick off the 2007 season on February 2, 2007, at the War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The Riverhawks will open up against the defending champion Canton Legends and need your support!
