Andrew Haines, president of the American Indoor Football League, was in town for the Johnstown Riverhawks’ press conference Wednesday at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
Haines said that the third-year league has “a lot of big announcements next week,” following an owners meeting in Florence, S.C., including finalizing a 2007 schedule, which starts the first weekend of February.
“February 2nd is going to be our opening weekend, Super Bowl weekend,” Haines said. “We’re going to play Friday and Saturday of that week.”
Haines said it was a necessity to begin the schedule a few weeks earlier than last season’s start date near the end of February.
