The article isn't THAT negative, just realistic. How does one sugarcoat a one win season? Perhaps: "At least we get an early draft pick". Hrmmm. No, that won't work. I'm skeptical about the theory that the Freeze send out press releases about any changes/signings? If it was so, why was the signing of La Verde such a big secret? Why are there no press releases shown on Our Sports Central since 2006? 2006!?!? OSC will pretty much put up anything that a team sends them, are they biased against the Freeze as well? The Freeze are lucky to play in a city that is big enough to have it's own local media, yet small enough where the media is eager to print/air almost any story with a local angle -- they devote time to High School Volleyball for Chrissake! The Freeze, despite having three years of experience in operation, seem to have learned little about doing PR since Espo left. They need to be bending over backward to feed the paper and TV stations stories and info on (at the very LEAST) a weekly basis. Stats and recaps should be done and to the news outlets within hours of games ending, not days. But this is all One cant sugar coat a 1 win season though i have to ask, how many articles did this reporter/paper write in regards to how the local area was fortunate to have an affordable, fan friendly sports franchise in the city of Erie? While the article is factual it wouldnt hurt for them to go out of their way to publish some positive articles in addition to the slighly negative ones. The press can make or break a sports franchise or any other business in general. I guess the point that is trying to be made here is how is that article gonna help the Freeze succeed and gain fan interest for next & future seasons? Anyone one who hasnt been to a Freeze game yet and reads this article might think twice about attending.........

Gene, it's not the job of the newpapers to promote the team. That's the teams job.

Gene, it's not the job of the newpapers to promote the team. That's the teams job. Has nothing to do with promotion. You gotta think about this on both sides, not just one. I understand its their job to report news but all i am saying is report the good as well as the bad. That said, were there any positive stories printed about the Freeze? Maybe any stories celebrating their 3rd year in the city of Erie & providing affordable fan-friendly entertainment? Our paper here in Reading has gotten a bit better but i'd like to see more coverage as they give the Reading Phillies & Royals. The local high schools and volleyball teams seem to get more coverage here than our team. That said, the press here seems to promote these other teams & sports very very well.

It's not about promotion. What does Dudley get out of flaming a team that's been down and out? Why so sarcastic and cynical? It's almost like he had a bad day, and the Freeze was an easy target.

Had To chime in on this...... I think that Dudley's article is hit and miss. Scooter made the point I was going to about Ro...he was invisable after the Danville game. Germany was MUCH better at the position because he moves latteraly so much better. And I strongly dissagree with Dudley on the on the Dinkins thing...he obviously didn't see the end of the Pittsburgh game where his foolishness almost allowed the Freeze to come back and tie the game. I'm dissapointed that I did not get to see the new QB play the last 2 games....sounds to me that he played well. Dudley's points about the website and some other points are valid.....but you have to consider the financial aspect of the operation especially in a 1-13 season. The fact that this team was so succesfull right out of the gate definetly had an adverse effect after such a terrible year. I'm not much of a sugar coater......but I am also not into kicking someone while they are down with I do think Dudley does a bit in this case.
