Demolition rally past slumping Freeze
Published: March 30. 2007 7:00AM
DANVILLE, Ill. -- The slide continues for the Erie Freeze.
The Danville Demolition rallied from 16 points down to defeat the Freeze 48-45 Thursday night before 1,700 fans at the David S. Palmer Arena, giving the AIFA expansion franchise its first victory after four losses.
The Freeze (1-6) whose only victory this season was over the Demolition 49-21 in Erie in the second week of the season, lost their fifth straight and are 0-4 on the road. The loss was the second straight in five days against an expansion team, with the Freeze losing at the Carolina Speed 40-29 last Saturday.
Erie quarterback Randall Secky completed 19-of-41 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns, but it was not enough. Willie Davis also connected on five TD passes for the Demolition, who trailed 37-21 in the second half.
Harry Latimore ran in from three yards out for the winning touchdown, and Courtney Wells batted down a Secky pass in the end zone to preserve the victory.
The Freeze return home to face the Huntington Heroes on April 7.

If 1,700 is the true number, that's a slight step up from the RiverRats @ Demos game that had roughly 1,000 there. Even if the number is slightly inflated, that means it's higher than the 1,000 estimate I pegged it at.

Lots of empty seats....wish I would have taken a picture during the game. My guess: 500-750

I'm interested in the Freeze attendence next week. Hopefully the coloring contests(which lets kids get in for free) brings people out.

Joe should have game pics up soon. I have pics but I'm not smart enough to know how to post them. We got back into town about 9am and Joe had to go put in 4hrs at his job. I'm sure he's still sleeping this trip off right now.
But getting back to the game, a lot of things went down that effected the game. I'm not making any excuses here, I just want to share the facts of the game to all of you. We let this one get away.
We made the trip with only 17 players, C. Blackshear was a no-show.
We were supposed to leave at 4am, but we didn't leave until 5am due to issues with our travel arrangements. Which consisted of us pooling vehicles together to fit everyone as comfortably as possible. During this time several attempts were made by teammates to contact "Blackie" but went unsuccessful.
So we took to the road in the limo, 2 suvs and a caravan.
The coaching staff had to adjust the roster with Chris not on board.
Also, We switched kickers. K. Scott took over the kicking duties, and was doing an admirable job until he pulled a hamstring.
We were then forced to go for a lot of first downs instead of field goals and 2pt conversions when our kicking game went south.
We should have a new kicker for next week.
The guys played a good game that due to some circumstances got away from us.
We did make some mistakes and that hurt us. We really had turned the game around when we scored just before halftime, I said to Joe I wish halftime wouldn't have happened because we stole the momentum and had taken control of the game.
I know this has not been the season that Freeze fans expected and are not used to seeing.
There just seems to be one or two things happening each week that effect this teams ability to bring home a win.
Sorry if this post doesn't make much sense. I'm still tired from the trip....
Just wanted to clear a little air.

At least we stay competitive with most everybody, our worst loss is 17 points to Canton on the road. The games are close and often exciting, but it just seems like we buckle under the pressure when the game is on the line at the end.
